Sligo of Boston 2023 Honoree

Our 2023 Honoree

Christine McCarrick, “A True Sligo Woman”

Currently, Christine is the interim president of the Sligo Association of Boston and has been the Secretary for the Association for the last 8 years. As Secretary she possessed the skills and resources to fulfill the role and then sum! Along the way she has made many lifelong bonds with fellow Association members and has learned a thing or two about golf! Christine is part of a long, proud family lineage from Sligo. Her maternal great-grandmother Bridget Nelson emigrated to the US from the shores of Lough Gill, Inishfree in the early 1900’s. Christine’s paternal grandmother Bridget Davitt of Cloonacool, Sligo married John McCarrick and raised their family in Curracunnane, Curry, Sligo. Christine’s father Matt McCarrick was raised there before emigrating to the US in the 1960's. It was not likely imagined by her ancestors that decades later, she would be honored for her commitment to celebrating County Sligo by this gracious organization.

Christine is an Irish American raised in Needham, Ma, who followed in her father’s footsteps attending Wentworth Institute of Technology, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management. Christine has worked in the construction and the real estate industry for nearly 30 years. Working for a variety of companies along the way, Christine eventually joined her father in the family's property management business. Christine is known for her dedication and attention to detail. She has a tireless work ethic and a strong willingness to help others, in her personal life and professional life.

Christine is the 4th generation to reside here locally, on St. Margaret's Street in Dorchester. She follows her maternal great-grandmother Bridget, her grandparents Babe and Frank Wallace and her mother Louise, who all called Dorchester their home.

Christine has also been an Executive Board Member for the McCormack Civic Association of Boston for the past 10 years. In this volunteer role she gives her time at monthly board meetings by working in partnership with the city government, local businesses, and other community organizations to bring about civic betterment. Whether it be neighborhood park clean ups, development reviews or neighbor concerns. Participating in the community has always been something important to her and continues to be.

Over the years whether it be in her professional life, volunteer work or travels, Christine has met hundreds of people with a connection to Sligo. It's a hard thing to nail down but there is something unique about this, a certain pride and appreciation for this special place, often referred to as "the land of heart's desire".

Although there is no set definition of a true Sligo woman, if family focused, steadfast, loyal and the gift of gab are traits, Christine has it all.
